The Most Beautiful Villages of France
Crissay-sur-Manse
Loire Valley
Formerly Crisseium, place where a fortress stands, Crissay keeps its castle, its lodgings, its gardens, two washing-places along the Manse, meandering under the poplar trees.
Belonging to the archdiocese of Tours, it became the fief of the Guillaume de Turpin and his descendants. Built in 1527, the church holds two wooden statues of st John and the Virgin. 15th mansions recall the village’s golden age: grand logis du notaire, house of justice, Charles 7th ‘s house.
