Montpellier is a fascinating city that has grown and prospered without ever forgetting its Mediterranean roots.
What to discover?
Strolling in the city, you will see a large number of private mansions. These mansions are closed to the public but some open their courtyards for guided tours. You will also discover the Saint-Pierre Cathedral, the Triumph Arc, The Peyrou royal square with its panoramic view, etc. The place de la Comédie offers you one of the largest pedestrian areas in Europe. You will not miss the faculty of medicine. It is today the oldest operating medical school in the occidental world.
Montpellier‘s thirst for culture is great, the town has two national Opera Houses just 400 meters apart. Some guided tours will allow you top visit those marvelous places full of anecdotes. Many museums are scattered throughout the city: Agropolis museum, centre for scientific and technical culture, Fabre Museum, “Languedocien” museum, archeological museums and so much more to discover.
The Jardin des Plantes offers an island of greenery for the inhabitants of Montpellier, it is the oldest one in France!
All year long, the town hosts many events: Festival music, cinema Festival, Montpellier International Fair, Saint Roch Fair, Languedoc Choral Festival, Swing Dance festival, etc.
